Khartoum - Gunmen detained 31 internally displaced people
travelling to a government-run conference, peacekeepers said on Monday,
underlying security and other challenges faced by Darfur's 1.4 million
"A convoy of three commercial buses carrying 31
internally displaced persons (IDPs) and escorted by Unamid peacekeepers was
stopped by a large unidentified armed group in military uniforms and seven
jeep-mounted guns", Aicha Elbasri, spokesperson for the African
Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (Unamid) said in a statement.
The incident happened at about 18:20 on Monday and the
current status of the IDPs remains unclear, Elbasri said.
