Zim war vets boss loses Parliament seat after being expelled from Zanu-PF – reports

20 July 2016, 13:42

Harare – The leader of Zimbabwe’s former freedom fighters has lost his seat as a Member of Parliament after he was expelled from the ruling Zanu-PF party, the state-owned Herald newspaper has reported.

Christopher Mutsvangwa’s expulsion from the country’s National Assembly came after the ruling party notified Speaker Jacob Mudenda.

Mutsvangwa was booted out of the ruling Zanu-PF party for ill-discipline.

According to NewsDay, Mutsvangwa described his relationship with Zanu-PF as "burdensome".

However, according to the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, his expulsion from the party was ill-advised.

ZNLWVA national spokesperson Douglas Mahiya was quoted as saying that the veterans were "shocked, angered and saddened" by his expulsion.

The ruling party is riddled with warring factions, as party leaders position themselves to succeed the 92-year-old President Robert Mugabe.
