Lagos - Leaders of various Maritime Unions at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos on Wednesday averted a clash between their members who were fighting over collection of tolls at the entry and exit points at the port, reports Shipping Online.
Trouble ensued when dockworkers under the aegis of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) forcefully tried to take over the control of toll collection from Joint Council of Seaport Truckers (JCOST), which comprises Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and two other unions.
It took the intervention of leaders of the warring parties before normalcy was restored in and around the port.
A meeting has been scheduled for Thursday to resolve the issue.
