Lagos - British Deputy High Commissioner, Peter Carter, and a team from the British Prudential Insurance Plc.,on Wednesday visited the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) for an industry knowledge sharing exchange.
British Prudential Insurance Plc is a UK-based life assurance company.
NAICOM's Assistant Director, Corporate Affairs, Salami Rasaaq, said in a statement that the visit was to enable Carter inform the Commissioner for Insurance (CFI), Fola Daniel, of the intention of Prudential Plc to invest in the nation’s insurance sector.
The statement said that their mission was to obtain information about investing in the Nigerian economy and the financial sector, especially insurance.
It quoted Matt Lilley, the Director of Strategy & Corporate Development, Prudential Plc, as saying that the company had been in operation for 165 years.
“The company is purely a life assurance entity and has major investments in Asia and recently invested $5million in a small insurance business in Ghana.
“We are keen and eager to enter the Nigerian market for big ticket businesses,” Lilley said.
NAICOM's Commissioner for Insurance, Fola Daniel, also expressed his delight at the visit.
Daniel pledged the support and cooperation of the Commission toward the successful entrance of the company into the Nigerian market.
