Abuja - The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said it sold 217 million dollars (N3.5 billion) worth of foreign exchange at its 57th bi-monthly Wholesale Dutch Auction System (WDAS) on Wednesday.
The information was released on its website on Wednesday.
The bank said the volume of the foreign exchange sold dropped by 83 million dollars (N1.3 billion) against 300 million dollars sold on July 23.
Some of the dealers said that CBN reduced the sale to 217 million dollars (N3.5 billion) in line with the downward review of the net open foreign exchange position to control the influx of forex in the system.
The naira appreciated against the dollar at the auction, trading at N155.84 to a dollar compared with N155.89 to a dollar at the auction on July 23.
15 banks participated at the bi-weekly WDAS auction against 19 banks that traded on July 23.
