Chinese firm clinches key rail project contract

Lagos - ZTE, the Chinese telecommunications equipment and solutions provider, announced it had secured the contract to provide communication system for the ongoing the Nigerian 1 315-km railway project.

Another Chinese company, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), will execute the main rail construction project which would run from Lagos to Kano.

ZTE is expected to work with CCECC provide communications systems in order to speed up the railway modernization project, which government hopes to commission next year.

According to ZTE, part of the contract brief includes the provision of information and communications system equipment and debugging and commissioning services for this project.

This, it said, would ensure the smooth operation of the railway when concluded.

The communications systems to be provided by the company include the transmission system, telephone system, wireless communications system, scheduling and optical communication column system, power supply system, and communication instruments.

ZTE would also provide information systems such as passenger guidance system, public address system, clock system and power supply devices.

The company could not disclose the financial details of the contract but said it was committed to do an excellent job and deliver the contract in record time.
