Dana Air resumes flight operations

27 January 2014, 11:40

Lagos - Dana Airline is scheduled to resume flight operations later on Monday with the Lagos-Abuja route.

This follows a successful audit of its flight operation by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The airline had been grounded for more than three months following the decision by NCAA to audit its operations.

The grounding followed the airline’s involvement in a major air crash in 2012 where 153 passengers including crew members died.

The airline was banned from flying following the accident but was later cleared to commence operation.

Another near miss however prompted the aviation authorities to audit the technical and safety operations of the airlines.

Yvan Drewinsky, Chief Operating Officer and Accountable Manager, said the lifting of the suspension order was a testament that Dana Air adhered “strictly” to prescribed safety standards as dictated by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (NCAR) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.

Yvan commended the Aviation Ministry and the NCAA for the transparent and objective conduct of the operational audit of the airline.

With the positive result from the NCAA audit, Yvan said the airline would formal resume flight operation on the Lagos-Abuja route on its Boeing Aircraft

The airlines COO said other destination would follow as it hopes to increase the number of planes on its fleet in the coming months.

He commended Nigerians for their show of support and understanding, especially those whose travel itinerary were disrupted during the operational audit exercise.
