Dangote to establish sugar cane plantation

23 May 2013, 10:02

Zagga- The President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said on Wednesday that the company would soon establish a sugar cane plantation in Kebbi.

Dangote, who inspected the site for the proposed 100 000 hectare plantation at Zagga in the Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi, told newsmen that the plantation was capable of producing one million tones of sugar annually.

He said that 70 000 workers would be employed, stressing that modalities would be worked out for the smooth takeoff of the factory with relevant state authorities.

He said his group would not relent in embarking on investments that would offer employment opportunities and promote development.

The Secretary to the State Government, Nurudeen Kangiwa, commended Dangote on the decision to invest in the state.

He said the factory would boost efforts made by the state to ensure development of the agriculture sector, considering that majority of the population were farmers.
