Lagos - Etisalat currently has the largest number of subscribers porting to its network following the commencement of Mobile Number Portability (MNP).
This is according to statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission.
According to NCC statistics on mobile number portability for May and June, Etisalat got 44 percent porting into its network in May and 50 percent in June.
MTN received 10 percent of the total number of porters in May, and 9 percent in June, as against 17 percent for Glo, and 29 percent in June.
Airtel received 29 percent ported into the network in May, and 12 percent on June.
According to the statistics, a total of 13 923 subscribers ported from one network to another between May and June.
7 164 subscribers ported in May while 5 759 ported in June.
Mobile Number Portability enables subscribers to change networks while retaining their number.
A number of challenges have characterised the process with clients alleging companies were reluctant to port them.
