Lagos - The Nigerian banking sector recently got an international boost with the award to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Plc as the2014 African Bank of the Year by African Banker Magazine for the second consecutive time.
A statement by GTBank said the award was given at the sidelines of the just-concluded African Development Bank (AFDB) Annual General meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.
The African Banker Awards recognises and celebrates the achievements of the financial services industry in Africa.
The panel of judges explained that the rationale for selecting GTBank for the coveted award was because of its strong financial performance and contribution to the quality of services within the country and across the continent.
Kunle Sonola, Managing Director of GTBank Kenya, who received the award on behalf of GTBank, noted that “GTBank is honoured to win the award.
“The award is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the board, management and staff of the bank.
“It is also a challenge and a call to do more to project the global relevance of the African banking industry,” the statement said.
He commended the bank’s customers for their continued trust and support, assuring them that the bank would continue to strive to deliver beyond stakeholders’ expectations at all times.
