Lagos - The persistent inadequate gas supply to the various power generating plants nationwide and lack of maintenance have caused the shutdown of some hydro-powered plants across the country, reports Leadership.
Not fewer than seven power plants are currently not generating power and not contributing to the national grid due to the shortage and maintenance.
Among the seven affected power facilities with a combined operating capacity of 3 300 megawatts (MW) is the Kainji Station with installed capacity of 760 MW but currently shut as a result of multiple faults affecting eight of its units.
The 600MW Shiroro Hydro-power plant has been struggling to operate and is presently shutdown due to ongoing repairs and overhauling.
