Abuja - Worried by the implication of the huge sum of unclaimed dividends in the nation’s capital market, the Federal Government on Thursday urged the authorities of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) to look at ways of making the money available to small investors, reports Leadership.
Yerima Ngama, Minister of State for Finance, noted that it was not in the country’s best interest to have the over N60 billion unclaimed dividends unpaid to their owners, saying most of the unclaimed dividends belonged to very small investors, many of whom could hardly be traced.
He advised operators to make the unused fund available to small investors to help them in their operational needs.
He noted that ,though , the capital market’s performance remained impressive with about 38.8 per cent growth in the current year ,there is still need to look at untapped investment opportunities for the market.
