Abuja – The federal government has announced that Utorogu and Ughelli gas plants in Delta had been shut down to pave way for their maintenance from June 2 to June 22.
The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said the shutdown would affect power supply in parts of the country especially areas fed by the Egbin and Omotosho power stations.
A statement issued by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Minister on Monday in Abuja, said the action was part of efforts to improve gas supply to the power plants.
The minister assured that work would be completed on schedule, and apologised for the temporary inconveniences the shutdown was going to cause.
Nebo explained that on completion of the maintenance and upgrades, the facilities would be re-commissioned with a view to improving gas production and ensure quality output from the power plants.
He said Nigerian Petroleum Development Corporation (NPDC) was maintaining the plants in line with international best practice.
He appealed for understanding and support as the federal government continued to revamp the sector
