Abuja - The Presidency through the Presidential Spokesperson, Reuben Abati, has denied that it intends to sell the country’s four refineries to private operators.
The denial is to pacify the oil unions, which have started planning on embarking on a strike over the planned privatisation of these refineries, reports Nigerian Tribune
Abati said there was no presidential endorsement for the refineries to be sold as government does not have such plans.
He noted that the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, could not sell any government property without the President’s approval.
The refineries are the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited I and 2;
Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited and the Warri Refining and
Petrochemical Company Limited.
