Lagos - Konga, one of Nigeria’s leading online stores, has threatened to drag Rocket Internet, the parent company of its local competitor, Jumia to court for antitrust violations.
The Berlin based company is accused of buying and sitting on” Konga related domain names in 11 African countries to stifle possible competition in those markets, reports Venture Africa.
The related domain names were registered, according to domain ownership site whois.com, in June, 2013 in Berlin by Arnt Jeschke, a representative of Rocket Internet GmbH. Some of the domain names include konga.co.ke, konga.co.za, and konga.cd.
The names were registered immediately after the owner of Konga, Sim Shagaya, turned down Rocket’s proposal to merge his company with the German company’s Nigerian subsidiary.
