Nairobi – MTN Group, the only African brand in the prestigious Millward-Brown Brandz Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands survey, has improved its standing even more as a global brand, a survey showed on Tuesday.
The 2013 survey results showed that MTN moved up nine places to position 79th, with an overall increase in brand value of 23%. MTN

The MTN Group is Africa's largest telecommunications company, with over 173 million subscribers in 22 countries.
MTN outshone other equally reputable brands such as Woolworths (80),
KFC (91), Yahoo! (92), DHL (98) and Volkswagen (100).
The 2013 BrandZ ranking of the top 100 valuable global brands saw Apple maintain its reign at No 1 with a value of $185 071m. The value of top brands grew by 7% to $2.6 trillion.
The top 10 brands in the survey are Apple, Google, IBM, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, AT&T, Microsoft, Marlboro, Visa and China Mobile.
Chinese messaging platform Tencent came in at No 21, growing 52% in brand value based on the success of its WeChat utility for
voice and text communication over the internet. Naspers owns just over a third of the company, which is China's largest
online gaming and social networking firm.
Volkswagen rounds out the listing at No 100.
