Lagos - Crisis is brewing in the nation’s maritime sector as the leadership of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has threatened to ground activities in the seaports if the federal government does not stop the implementation of the 35 percent duty hike on imported vehicles before the July 1 takeoff date.
The union is also demanding the relocation of tank farms away from the nation’s seaports, residential and commercial areas, reports Daily Sun.
Tony Nted Emmanuel, MWUN President, said the implementation of the new tariff before the takeoff date of July 1 shows that the government is insensitive to the plight of most Nigerians.
