Minister resolves Aero Contractors crisis

18 March 2013, 09:03

Ikeja - Striking workers of Aero Contractors Airlines are expected to resume duty, following a truce brokered by the Ministry of Labour in Lagos on Sunday.

Chukwuemeka Wogu had dispatched a deputy controller of labour from the Lagos office of the ministry to mediate between the workers and the airline's management.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workers unions’ on March 13, grounded the operations of the airline at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, over labour-related issues.

The unions were the National Union of Air Transport Employees and Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria.

The two unions had earlier advised the management of the airline to imbibe the culture of embracing social dialogue, instead of using arbitrary approach.

NAN reports that the airline workers were locked out by management of the airline, following a failed welfare negotiation.

The airline’s spokesperson, Simon Thumba, on March 15, said in a statement that the board and management had decided to suspend Aero's operations until further notice.
