NIPOST, CBN undergoing evaluation

31 July 2013, 13:25

Abuja - The Postmaster- General, Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Ibrahim Baba, said the collaboration between NIPOST and CBN on cash less policy was undergoing evaluation.

Baba told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that, the essence of the collaboration was to support the CBN in the execution of the cash less policy.

Baba said that for the collaboration to take-off effectively, there was the need to ensure that certain modalities needed to be put in place, adding that the collaboration was at the process of evaluation.

"The Ministry of Science and Technology and CBN have decided to ensure that competent consultant looks into the capability and capacity of post offices of NIPOST to deliver services to CBN.’’

NAN recalls that under the partnership, NIPOST will roll out new services such as cash transfer as well as Warehouse Point of Sale Terminals, especially in rural communities.

NAN also recalls that, Baba had sometime said the era of information technology had brought enormous competition to bear on NIPOST's mandate and operations.

"We therefore need to redouble our efforts to create an efficient and profit-oriented postal service that will guarantee customer satisfaction and improved revenue generation.''

He also said that NIPOST would sensitise its staff on the use of e-transact to enhance the CBN policy on cash-based transactions.
