NNPC hails appointment of director

03 October 2012, 16:07

Abuja  -  The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says the appointment of its Group General Manager, NNPC Greenfield Refineries, Mr Adebayo Ibirogba, as the Vice President, World Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (WLPGA), is a welcome development.

A statement by Mr Fidel Pepple, the NNPC’s Acting Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division, on Wednesday, in Abuja, said that the appointment would impact positively on the nation’s gas growth and development.

Pepple recalled that Ibirogba’s appointment was ratified at the recently concluded WLPGA Annual Forum in Bali, Indonesia, and took effect from September.

He described Ibirogba as a seasoned engineer with years of experience in the oil and gas industry who had represented the NNPC in the association’s industry council.

Pepple further said that Ibirogba had the requisite experience in project engineering, refining, petrochemicals, and international trading, among other things.

The newly appointed vice president is a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the British Institute of Management and the Energy Institute of the UK.

The WLPGA is the global body for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) with the mandate and authority to promote the use of LPG worldwide for a cleaner, healthier and more prosperous environment.

The WLPGA Board of Directors comprises leading players from the LPG Industry globally, including chair persons, presidents and chief executives of various global brands.

On the other hand, the World LP Gas Association (WLPGA) is the authorised voice of the global LP Gas industry representing the LP Gas value chain with the aim of adding value to the sector by driving premium demand for LP gas.

The association was established in 1987 and granted special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 1989.
