NSE indices appreciate by 0.84%

Lagos - A total of 578.03 million shares worth N4.3 billion were traded in 7 744 deals on the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Monday.

This was against the 410.78 million shares worth N3.5 billion exchanged in 6 720 deals on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports trading on the NSE opened for the week on a positive note due to price gains by some stocks which impacted positively on market indices.

The All-share index appreciated by 273.16 points or 0.84 per cent to close at 32,685.02 from 32,411.86 recorded on Friday.

Also, the market capitalisation, which opened at N10.370 trillion, appreciated by N87 billion or 0.84 per cent to close at N10.457 trillion

NewGold led the price gainers’ chart with a gain of N8 to close at N2, 552 per unit.

PZ Cusson followed with a gain of N3.56 to close at N39.19 per share, while Lafarge Wapco grew by N3.43 to close at N71.43 per share.

GlaxoSmithKline gained N2.35 to close at N49.36 per share, while International Breweries rose by N2.27 to close at N24.98 per share.

On the other hand, Nestle led the losers’ chart with a loss of N18.99 to close at N72.82 per share.

Flourmill came second with a loss of N8.09 to close at N72.82 per share, while Dangote Cement shed N4.87 to close at N140 per share.

Presco lost 18k to close at N26.11, while Livestock dipped by 12k to close at N2.38 per share.

NAN reports that Sterling Bank emerged the most active stock, trading 114.37 million shares worth N326.62 million and was followed by Transcorp which traded 68.86 million shares valued at 103.94 million.
