Lagos - Transferbee, the United Kingdom-based firm, has launched a new mobile money transfer service for Nigerians living in the European country.
The offering is poised to facilitate easy and cheaper money transfers from the United Kingdom to Nigeria.
The company said it will charge only 4.5 Pounds for the transaction while the transfer money would be sent directly to the mobile phone in Nigeria using a growing mobile money ecosystem in the country.
According to officials, the transfers would take 24 hours and the receiver can redeem the money in numerous cash-out points.
“With Transferbee, we want to change the way Nigerians send money home and offer a cheap and convenient alternative,” said Titas Bledis, CEO of Transferbee.
Bledis further explained that Transferbee would also be unique because of the convenience of the service.
“The sender can transfer money to any Nigerian mobile phone number. The money will be sent to the receivers’ mobile money wallet in 24 hours. Mobile wallet would be created automatically, if the receiver is not yet using mobile money.
“The receiving party can then withdraw money in 1000s of cash-out points across the country without a need to visit the bank,” he said.
Bledis noted that Transferbee was working with two mobile money operators in Nigeria- Teasy Mobile Money and Cellulant Wallet.
It is planning to forge partnerships with more mobile money companies in the near future.
Official figures suggest there are 1,5 million Nigerians in the UK.
