Minna - Alhaji Shehu Fawa, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly, on Sunday in Kontagora, gave N1.5 million as scholarship to 150 students in his constituency.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that each of the beneficiaries in tertiary institutions received N10 000.
Fawa, who is the chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, representing Kontagora II constituency, said that the gesture was to alleviate the financial plight of the beneficiaries.
He said that the gesture was also part of his pet Project, ‘Education Advancement Scheme’ (EAS), to students in his constituency studying in tertiary institutions.
The legislator, who was represented by his Personal Assistant, Alhaji Mamman Gwadebe, said that he had spent N500 000 as school fees to married women attending Islamic schools in the area under the project.
Fawa appealed to the beneficiaries to use of the money judiciously.
