Nigeria set to sell shares in gas-powered plants

12 November 2013, 16:23

Lagos - Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) said about 66 power consortiums have submitted proposals for the management of 10 gas-powered generation companies under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs).

The bidding process, which is currently ongoing, is to be transparently managed in a way similar to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Premium Times reports.

The plants are Alaoji Power Station, Calabar Power Station, Egbema Power Station, Geregu Power Station and Ihovbor Power Station.

The rest are Olorunsogo Power Station, Omoku Power Station, Omotosho Power Station, Gbarain Power station and Ogorode Power Station.

Briefing the press after the bidding session in Abuja, the managing director of NDPHC, James Olotu, said the company needed reliable organisations to manage the plants.

He said the NDPHC would strive to avoid situations whereby bidders would procure the plants and due to weak capital, dispose with the facility and short change the country.

The chairman of the event and the minister of power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, assured the bidders of the transparency of the entire process.
