Abuja - Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, has warned the Council of Ministers and Governors of Central Banks of the West African Monetary Zone against rushing the implementation of a single currency in the West Africa Monetary Zone (WAMZ).
Rushing to launch the monetary union according to her will hurt many economies of the member states, especially Nigeria, reports Daily Trust.
She urged the council not to be stampeded into adhering to a set deadline capable of putting the economy on edge as Nigeria being the biggest economy in the region will be forced to bear the brunt at the event of the collapse of the system.
She advised member countries to learn lessons from European countries, which were fatally hit by the Euro zone crisis.
