Lagos - Mobile networks face sanctions from the the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) if found to be obstructing the porting process.
NCC Director of Public Affairs, Tonu Ojobo, slammed such behaviour as anti-competitive.
"Porting to any network must not be denied to any subscriber for whatever reason," he said.
According to Ojobo the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) regulations clearly spelt out the responsibilities of the telecom operators, the MNP clearing house and the Commission.
He said provisions in the regulation of MNP indicated that a porting request to any network could not be denied except if the subscriber was owed or there were issues of false identity.
MNP enables customers to move from one network to another but retain their number.
