Police arrest telecoms cable vandals

Enugu - The Enugu State Police Command has smashed a three-man gang that specialise in vandalising telecommunications cables in Enugu State.

The command's Spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said the vandals were arrested at Abor in Udi Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement in Enugu on Monday, Amaraizu said the arrest of the first suspect, Chukwudi Okoro, led to the arrest of two others, whose names  he gave as Onyekachukwu Ugwuoke and Chinedu Onoh.

Amaraizu said that items recovered from the vandals at the scene of the incident include iron cutter and some cables belonging to the Nigeria Telecommunications Ltd.

The spokesman said the suspects were helping the police in investigation.

The statement said the state's Commissioner of Police, Mr Musa Daura, had applauded the public for the timely information that led to the arrest.

Daura hailed the efforts of the men of the command and cautioned the public to stay away from government's installations.
