Auchi - Residents of Auchi and its environs in Etsako West Local Area of Edo, have decried power outage in the area, saying it had crippled their business.
A cross section of the residents, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Auchi that the area had been without electricity for more than five days.
They contended that erratic power supply had adversely affected their businesses and standard of living, adding that businesses that depend on electricity had been crippled due to the blackout.
They appealed to the management of PHCN to work hard to restore power.
Queen Garuba, a business woman in Auchi, said that she had lost most of her customers due to the epileptic power supply.
"For days now, this area has been without power supply. We do not really know what is happening and nobody is talking about it.
"It is a big problem for me because it is from the proceeds of this business that I take care of my family,” she said.
A furniture maker in Auchi, who identified himself as Lagbaja, told NAN that he was forced to temporarily close down his shop due to lack of electricity to do his work.
Ovie Phillip, who operates a barbing salon in Auchi, said it had not been easy operating solely on generator.
"Even with the generator, we cannot afford to increase our prices because it will scare away customers.
"My profit has seriously been affected by this problem,” he said.
Ramat Mustapha, a fashion designer, said that her customers had been putting pressure on her to deliver.
"They just would not understand that there is no electricity to work with. I cannot iron or stretch these clothes without electricity,’’ she said.
However, the Business Manager, Auchi Business District of the PHCN, Festus Iyayi, blamed the problem on a faulty breaker at Irrua transmitting station.
He said that the fault affected power supply to Auchi and Edo-North and Central senatorial districts.
He said the company’s engineers were working hard to rectify the fault and restore power to the area.
