Abuja - The country’s power sector reforms are under threat following the supremacy battle between the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Electricity Management Service Limited.(EMS).
The rivalry between the agencies manifested on Wednesday at the House of Representatives public hearing on a Bil seeking to convert EMSL into an Authority, responsible for electricity equipment inspection and certification, reports Leadership.
The Ministry of Power and EMSl believe the establishment of the Authority will help address the current spate of accidents and electrocution in the industry occurring from influx of substandard and illegal power.
NERC, howeve,r argued that the Authority’s functions as proposed in the bill would conspicuously conflict with its roles and that of other subsisting institutions.
