Rivers State welcomes partners for fish breeding industry

Abuja – The Rivers State Government said it was eager to partner with investors to enhance the growth of the fish farming industry in the region.

Daniel Ogbumgbada, Director of Fisheries at the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture, said this in Port Harcourt duiring a seminar for fish farmers.

The farmers were made aware of new fish feeds produced by Danda Multi Investment Limited.

Ogbumgbada, said that the new fish feeds, which are produced in America would improve fish production in the state.

“Apart from having more nutrients, the new fish feed is accessible to former as the price is low,” said Ogbumgbada.
He said this will translate to the improvement of the condition of farmers and urged the farmers to make the best use of the opportunities to improve their condition.

Speaking at the event, a representative of Cargill Animal Nutritio, pledged to complement government efforst to boost livestock and fish breeding.

“The partnership will help boost food production as well as create employment opportunities for youth,” he said.

He attributed low volume of fish production to lack of technical knowledge among farmers.

The state government has earmaked fish farming as a key industry in employment and wealth creation.
