Rivers budget faces opposition

10 January 2014, 09:00Augustine Osayande

Abuja - Rivers State uncovered plans to oppose judgment against the 2014 budget recently passed into law by the State House of Assembly.

“We are calling on Rivers people and all Nigerians to see again the jack boot democracy that is been practiced,” Ibim Semenitari the Commissioner of Information and Communications, said.
She said the aim of the judgment was to “strangulate” the State of funds.

The commissioner accused the Minister of Education, Nyensom Wike, of intended to serve the Federal Ministry of Finance with the judgment to stop them from releasing funds accruable to the State.

She said the State would continue to use only democratic means to press for justice and noted that there were credible judges in this country that could not be bought over.

The Commissioner said that Wike did not realize the fact that salaries had to be paid and development projects completed.

She concluded, “We would continue to defend the rights of the people.”
