Lagos - Anglo Dutch oil giant, Shell has been criticized for shirking its responsibility in the Bonga oil spills and for wreaking havoc on the environment, reports ThisDay..
Patrick Akpobolokemi, Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), denounced the oil giant’s response to the spillage, saying it fell short of international standards and practices.
He said Shell was neither prepared for the emergency nor frank about the extent of the problem.
He noted that the company frustrated the agency's attempts to move to the site of the spill to access the extent of damage the spill has caused.
