Andoni APC: The strugle between greed and party interest
There is more than meet the eyes about the rumors of existing crack within the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Andoni. Greed and selfishness is at the root of the evil bedeviling the party in the area.
The South-South Crow has been following up the facts closely and can authoritatively report that the bane of the APC in the area is not unconnected with alleged “greedy-grip” of the fortunes of the party by the Rivers State Deputy Governor Engr. Tele Ikuru whose allegiance, the APC in Andoni claim is still tied to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This allegiance, no doubt, cannot be disputed as the deputy governor is the political child of the Deputy National Chairman of PDP Prince Uche Secondius who is also his cousin.
Not a few Andonis have vowed to resist the slavery inflicted on the area by Prince Uche Secondius leadership of the PDP and this has informed the people’s rejection of all that has the identity of Prince Uche Secondius; hence, the APC, whose State Chairman Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya coincidentally hails from Ikuru Town, home of Prince Uche Secondius became an antidote.
What is playing out in Andoni APC is the rejection of the continued presence of the deputy governor Tele Ikuru whose welcome, for Andoni APC bigwigs, has long expired. Even the Deputy (as he’s often called) would have known that they do not need him anymore as a lot of his loyalists have threatened time without number to dump the APC and return to their stock, the PDP.
This allegiance to Prince Secondius and the PDP has put the Deputy’s faith in Andoni APC in the balance as he manages to control a handful of supporters and followers, the effect of which was the outcome of the APC House of Reps and House of Assembly primary elections, where his candidates Elder (Hon.) Sampson G. Egop and Dr. Romsan Dressman respectively, suffered colossal loss to those of Chief Davies Ikanya.

It took the intervention of the Deputy’s boss, the Governor of the State to save the image of the Deputy when he ran to his boss to wipe off his shame and Amaechi ordered the reverse of the outcome of the primaries which till date has become a matter of internal arrangement among party stakeholders in Andoni. Whether this understanding is working out is a matter of time.
To put directly, the Deputy has often been accused by most members of the party as a greedy politician who has not suffered much yet has benefitted the most and would not want political dividends to spread.
Moreover, by now, members of the APC in Andoni had expected the Deputy’s exit to join his cousin Prince Secondius but still wondered why the Governor of the State Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi continued to keep him amidst accusations and claims that he is playing the PDP script in APC.
In the current face-off between Deputy and the State Chairman of APC Chief Ikanya over allegations of mutilation of names in ward and unit excos, the truth we gathered is quite different as the Deputy still retains nine (9) out of the eleven (11) ward excos leaving only two (2) wards for the ex-Chairman of Andoni LGA Orom Nte Ereforokuma and the Special Adv. to Governor on UBE Sam Sam Etetegwun, leaving none for Chief Ikanya.
Again, after the tenure of the past executive Council in Andoni, the Deputy has continued to decide who becomes the Chairman and members of Council and he nominates his cronies for these positions in the past seven months of the Care-taker-Committee.
This medium gathered authoritatively that trouble started as the Deputy was not allowed the chance again to nominate the present leadership of the Council headed by Hon. Esuku M. Esuku who was appointed by the Governor. So the claims that the current feud within the APC was as a result of removal of names of the loyalists of the Deputy from the list of wards and unit excos are mere cover-ups.
By and large, it is now becoming crystal clear that the political empire of Prince Uche Secondius and his cronies in Andoni is near-collapse and this is a source of worry, thereby evoking desperation and tension in many quarters.
While the likes of Tele Ikuru and his Prince are going down obsolete and fast losing popularity, Chief Davies Ikanya (popular called the bulldozer of Andoni politics) and his allies are gaining advantage and receiving the acceptance of most Andonis. This development therefore has pitched the trio gladiators against each other and APC is the grass that suffers.
Meanwhile, the leadership of APC in the area has restated clearly that it would not alter anymore change in the disputed lists as the party claims it is a harmonized list in the interest of the party.
