Nigerian youths and the 2015 election
We are using this urgent and important open letter to congratulate all Nigerians from all ethnic and religious individuals, groups, associations, and communities for being peaceful after the election postponement. No doubt Nigeria is in a critical and undeserved state that calls for immediate action. History is the memory of mankind and philosophy of history is the analytical ability of man to distinguish right from wrong. Philosophy of history helps to know the reasons for the rise and fall of nations.
Election is at hand and we cannot but shudder for our fellow youths and for the country in general. Youths are at the center stage of electioneering. They are the arrowheads of all atrocities committed before, during and after elections. They are used as thugs to carry out dirty deeds that they will live to regret later.
Youths are used to execute dirty deeds in the name of political parties that have nothing to offer to the multitude problems befalling the youths (the country). Yes! The youth’s future lies on good governance today. A better youth emerges from good governance when there are things/worthwhile projects on the ground. The government has nothing to bequeath for the present and future generation. Infact, we are enjoying the glory of the past leaders when the country was just emerging from bondage of colonial rule. NEPA has degenerated; RAILWAY degenerated; pipe-borne water with SWAN water, FARO water, PURE water, etc everywhere has degenerated, OIL REFINERY has degenerated; IRON and STEEL has degenerated; etc. these are projects that would boost employment opportunities. Youths have been suffering out of these DEGENERATIONS.
We always wonder if the youths ever asked themselves of which of their leaders they actually elected as to warrant all these destructions of life and properties just because of few thousand Naira gain for a day or two days. Our leaders are imposed on us even before elections! Youths are only used as objects of sacrificing and letting loose blood upon blood to satisfy their devilish altar.
It is high time the youths wake up from the zombie they are made into, if you are used as thugs, arsonists, etc during election, what come after it? What do they plan for you? What do you get in return? Is your future secured in terms of job, food, shelter, etc. let us tell you what they have for you: crippled industrial estates where companies closed down to less than 10% so that you don’t have employment opportunities; failed NEPA that changes name the way chameleon changes color but can’t perform because we have China products of generators and chargeable; grappling with problems of pipe-borne water even in our modern cities because they own industries producing pure water, swan water, etc; high-cost of living with cost of rentage increasing yearly as cost of building increases; the government housing project is for the “big guys” where the cheapest house might be N15 million on cash and carry basis; education is stratified to private and public, you need to be rich to attend the type of school you want and they tell you if you think education is too expensive try ignorance; medical is stratified, you need to be “classy” to receive medical attention as needed otherwise go to the government’s own and end up abandoned because you can’t afford bandage; Steel Rolling mills are abandoned because when they operate to full capacity your future and that of generation yet unborn is secured; insecurity because you need talisman for your daughter if you don’t want her to be abducted or kidnapped and you are lucky if her whereabout is known, etc.
Do you need more than these to know that killing someone or killing yourselves in the name of any party or ‘religion’ is meaningless? You don’t need to go to school to grow up in Nigeria with what is happening around everyone, everyday, all day long. As I put a finishing touch to this, don’t you and I need to know more about the following: why is someone somewhere hell bent on engineering Nigerians to form the unNigerian habit of harboring and perpetrating desperate, extreme and unforgiving actions against themselves? Do we need to give room to what might create more discord in our country leaving us with widows, orphans and humanitarian problems? Are we going to allow the labor of our heroes past to be in vain? Nigeria and Nigerians must take its place under the sun.
