ALGON wants Enugu PDP members to withdraw court cases

2015-03-04 09:54

Enugu - The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Enugu State has appealed to aggrieved aspirants of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to withdraw their cases from courts.

This is contained in a statement by the state Chairman of ALGON, Chief Cornelius Nnaji, in Enugu on Tuesday.

It described the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja as a victory for democracy and an indication that the party would emerge victorious at the forthcoming elections.

The statement urged the aggrieved members and aspirants with cases in various courts to withdraw them in the interest of peace and development of the state.

It also urged them to accept the verdict in good faith and join hands with other stakeholders in the state to ensure victory for the PDP in all the elections.

"In the spirit of sportsmanship and loyalty to the party, we appeal to aggrieved members of the party to sustain the tempo of the PDP-led government in Enugu State," it stated.

It thanked the people of the state, party loyalists and supporters for their prayers and support throughout the period of the trial.

The statement reassured the people of the association’s commitment to collaborate with the PDP to entrench internal democracy and rule of law.

A Federal High Court in Abuja on March 2 declared Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the Enugu State PDP governorship candidate in the forthcoming general elections.

The court, presided over by Justice Evoh Chukwu, dismissed the suit filed by Senator Ayogu Eze, challenging the emergence of Ugwuanyi.
