APC appeals for Ogoni votes

2015-01-09 09:53

Lagos – The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, urged the Ogoni people to vote for his party in next month’s general election.

The former military ruler said this would deliver the community from the alleged neglect they have suffered from the People’s Democratic Party over the years.

“A lot of resources is taken from Ogoniland while little is brought back in return. I can assure you that an APC-led Federal Government will fulfill all its promises in Ogoniland,” Buhari said in Tai Local Government Area during a meeting with Ogoni people.

He singled out an incomplete road project as highlighting the neglect of the region.

Buhari said the abandonment of the Bodo-Bonny road project highlighted the government’s incompetence.

“It amounts to neglect at the highest level,” Buhari said.

In a statement, Senator representing the area, Magnus Abe, bemoaned the alleged segregation of the Ogoni region.

“Our position as a people concerning resumption of oil exploration in Ogoni is that, there should be adequate consultation with and participation of the Ogonis in the process leading to their eventual operation,” he said.

The Ogoni Kingdom is in the southeast of the country.

The Ogoni number about 1 million.
