Aba - The new Commissioner of Police in Abia, Habila Joshak, has warned policemen in the state against unprofessional conduct during the forthcoming general elections.

He gave the warning on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen in Aba shortly after a familiarisation tour of Aba Area Command.

The CP said that it was unprofessional for any police officer to engage in partisan politics, adding that the duty of the police was to maintain law and order during the elections.

"The game is over for any police officer that will want to be partial. There are no opportunities for anybody to be partial.

"We do not vote and we do not screen people to vote and we do not handle the procedures for screening and accreditation.

"All sensitive and non-sensitive materials are sealed and our duty is to carry them," he said.

Joshak vowed to deal with any individual or group that would want to destabilise the electoral process.

He said that his priority was to rid the state of crimes and ensure the safety of the people and their property.

He commended the Aba Area Commander, ACP Peter Wabara for improving the welfare of his workforce through the provision of accommodation and renovation of old residential buildings.

In his address, the Aba Area Commander, ACP Wabara said the command had enough land to build more houses for its men and solicited the assistance of the CP to build the houses.

He appealed to the commissioner to provide the command with additional manpower to man its 16 divisions.

Wabara said that the 1,492 men currently working in the command was inadequate to effectively man the 16 divisions.
