Lagos - Farmers in the Abia State have endorsed the People’s Democratic Party presidential and gubernatorial candidates, Goodluck Jonathan and Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, respectively for the upcoming elections.
The endorsement follows a stakeholders meeting organised under the auspices of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (ALFAN) Abia State Chapter in conjunction with the Youths in Agriculture Programme (YEAP).
Key members of the Okezuo Abia Campaign Organisation attended the event.

Chairman of ALFAN in Abia State, Dunlop Okoro, noted the farmers had also resolved to support other PDP candidates in Abia State.
He argued that with the state being a largely agro-based, farmers constituted the bulk of the voting population in Abia State and the candidates they endorsed usually ended up winning the governorship election.
YEAP Coordinator for Abia State, Obinna Ndukwe Ibiam, said having takenthe time to assess all the governorship candidates, it was the conclusion of the organisation Ikpeazu had the best plans for the development of the agricultural sector in the region.
