Abia police pledge adequate security for corps members in Saturday's elections

2015-04-10 13:31

Umuahia - The police command in Abia has assured the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of adequate protection of its members during the April 11 elections in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Habila Joshak, gave the assurance in Umuahia on Thursday when he received the NYSC Director of Corps Mobilisation, Anthony Ani.

Joshak said the command was poised to protect the corps members while on election duty as well as in their places of primary assignment.

He commended the NYSC for its role in ensuring hitch-free elections in the state and the country at large.

The commissioner said that the visit would further strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the police and the corps.

Earlier, the director said the NYSC had embarked on a nationwide tour to monitor the activities of corps members during the general elections.

Ani commended security agencies in Abia for ensuring the safety of corps members during the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections.

He, however, urged them to also ensure their safety in the governorship and state assembly elections on April 11.

The director expressed delight that there was no case of death or attack of corps members during the March 28 elections.

"The management of the NYSC is concerned with the utmost safety of corps members as they perform their duties during the upcoming elections on April 11.

"So we are here to solicit for continued support of the police and other security agencies in protecting the corps members in Abia during and after the elections," he said.
