Lamurde - The Hama of Bachama Kingdom in Adamawa, Honest Stephen, has urged Nigerians to be tolerant and ensure peaceful conduct during the forthcoming general elections  in the country.

The monarch made the call in a speech to mark the 3rd Kwete Annual Festival held at Lamurde, the headquarters of Lamurde Local Government Area, on Sunday.

Stephen said  peace, stability and development were needed to sustain the nation’s democracy, stressing that there was need for Nigerians to  remain their brother’s keeper.

“The 2015 general elections are at the gate, and in the interest of togetherness and our country,  it is good to conduct peaceful elections  for successful transition.” Stephen said.

He called on youths to engage in  rewarding ventures  such as education, agriculture and sporting activities.

The monarch  described youths  as assets of the nation, adding that they should not allow themselves to be used as instrument of destruction.

He explained that the Kwete festival was usually organised after the cultivation  of farm  crops  to  pray to  God for good harvest  and good  health throughout the year.

The festival, he added, is also a symbol of the Bachama, showcasing the people’s  cultural heritage.

The media reports that this year’s edition of the annual festival attracted dignitaries from across the country.

Among those who graced the occasion were Gov.  Bala Ngilla, top government officials as well as   traditional rulers from within and outside the state.
