Aggrieved Akirikwen explains decision to dump APC

2015-03-24 13:16

Abuja - The Taraba State governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recent party’s gubernatorial primary election, Yususfu Akirikwen, claimed a lack of internal democracy drove thousands of members to defect to the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
Akirikwen crossed the floor alongside some 17 000 members of the opposition party.

The members announced their defection at a rally of the governorship candidate of the PDP, Dickson Ishaku, in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

Akirikwen bemoaned the alleged lack of internal democracy in APC, particularly during primaries.

“Four of us contested to be the flag bearer of the party in the state but one person out of us hijacked the whole process," he claimed.

"We aired our grievances to the national secretariat of the party but nobody has ever called us,” Akirikwen added.

Aisha Alhassan emerged the winner in the APC poll.

Taraba State Chairman of the PDP, Victor Bala Kona, meanwhile welcomed the decampees.

He assured them that the party was a big family and they will not be victimised.
