Amaechi while addressing the media at the Government House in Port Harcourt said that as RISIEC was acting within the law, there were no grounds for the council elections not to be held.
The state electoral commission had announced that the local elections would take place on May 23.
However the Peoples Democratic party in the state have lambasted the decision by RISIEC as it failed to give a 90 day notice, as prescribed by the law.
Amaechi stated that if the PDP were not in agreement with the decision by RISIEC, it should take the matter up with the state High Court.
