Amina Sambo urges Kebbi women to vote for PDP

2015-03-25 13:58

Birnin Kebb - Wife of Vice President, Hajiya Amina Sambo, on Tuesday called on women to vote for all candidates of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general elections for continued development.

Sambo was in Birnin Kebbi as part of the nationwide PDP Women Presidential Campaign Rally.

She said President Goodluck Jonathan had impacted positively on the lives of Nigerians, especially women, stressing that women had been appointed as ministers and political advisers unlike in the past.

She added that the Federal Government had awarded contract for reconstruction of the 600-kilometer Sokoto-Yauri and Yauri-Minna road to ease transportation of goods and persons.

The vice president’s wife said a federal university and an Amajiri school had been sited in the state to promote education and called for peaceful coexistence among Kebbi people, noting that ``without peace, there will be no development.’’

She urged women to vote for all PDP candidates in the general elections for rapid development.

In her remarks, the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Maina, commended the Kebbi State Government for developing infrastructure to promote tourism, commerce and investment sectors.

She called on women to vote for the PDP, stressing that the party had empowered 11,000 women in Kebbi through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) programme and distributed free empowerment tools to them, including sewing and knitting machines.

The wife of Kebbi Governor, Hajiya Zainab Dakingari, announced the distribution of N50,000 each, along with deep freezers to 35,000 less privileged women, including widows and divorcees,  to eradicate poverty and indolence among women.

She said "the PDP will expand the scope of women development in Kebbi" and commended women in the state for supporting the good leadership of the party.

Wife of the vice president then presented empowerment equipment, including sewing, weaving, knitting machines, as well as maize and beans to women groups.

Malama Aisha Mohammed, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended Sambo for the gesture and assured her of the women’s support to the PDP.
