Damaturu - The Coalition of Election Observers on Tuesday recommended the use of card readers in the conduct of local government council elections across the country.

The Team Leader of the Coalition, Alhaji Ali Abacha, made the recommendation in an interview in Damaturu.

He said "the use of card readers had significantly reduced rigging in the just-concluded presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly elections."

Abacha said the use of card readers in local council election would enhance credibility, acceptability and transparency as against what was obtained now.

The leader said "the Coalition wishes to commend the people of Yobe State for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the electioneering period.

"In spite of the security challenges and the initial fear of security breach during elections, the polls were conducted peacefully across the length and breadth of the state.

"The sacrifice and resilience of the electorate should be rewarded adequately, through poverty alleviation packages, economic empowerment and employment opportunities to improve the lives of the people".
