Counting of votes commences in Adamawa

Yola - Counting of votes has commenced in some local government areas of Adamawa, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Voting was concluded in Yola  North, Yola South and Mubi North Local Government Areas and counting had since commenced..

At Murtala Mohammed College, Yola, where Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Michika cast their votes, counting had been concluded.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Baba-Abba Yusuf, while speaking on the conduct of the exercise, said reports from parts of the state showed that things were generally okay except  few hitches with card readers.

Yusuf said the problem of lack of result sheets for the senatorial election had been resolved.

"A plane brought the result sheets from Abuja around 8:00 a.m. and we have since dispatch them," Yusuf said.

Also speaking on the exercise, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Othman Abubakar, said the election was peacefully conducted in the state.

"So far, the election has been generally peaceful,'' Abubakar said.
