ECOWAS observer team calls for fair poll

2015-03-26 11:06

Abuja - The Head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Election Observation Mission (EOM), John Kufuor, called on all stakeholders in the upcoming elections to ensure credible polls.

“Our prayer is that all Nigerians would act very responsibly throughout the election process so that at the end of the day we have a free, fair and peaceful election for the good of the people and the nation,” the former Ghana President said.

He reaffirmed the total neutrality of the ECOWAS Mission, which is made up of long-term observers, who have been in Nigeria since February and the short-term observers being deployed across the country’s geopolitical zones ahead of the general elections.

Kufuor leads the 250-member observer team for the elections.

He is expected to hold consultations with heads of other international observers and personally observe the presidential elections at selected polling stations on Saturday.

The ECOWAS EOM is expected to issue a Preliminary Declaration on Sunday.
