Fashola claims Lagos will reject Jonathan

Abuja - Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, vowed the electorate in the state would not vote for President Goodluck Jonathan, claiming he did not have the interests of the state at heart.

He thus said the plan by the incumbent to visit the state to canvass for votes ahead of polls would be futile.

“They have said the President is coming to Lagos. He is welcome to come as Lagos is part of his constituencies but we will not vote for him because when we needed him he did not come to help us,” said Fashola.

“When the International Airport Road got broken and he promised to repair it, did you see him? When Ebola hit Lagos did he come? When water started flooding at Kuramo Beach, when it was going to wipe out a whole estate in Goshen Beach, did you see the President?” Fashola asked.

The governor said the President had failed to deliver several promises he made to the people of the state, recalling how he flew with the President in a helicopter to Ibeju-Lekki where sea erosion was threatening to wipe out the communities around the coast.

He claimed Jonathan promised “to do something about it soonest.”

“Nothing was done despite the numerous letters and appeals reminding the President of his promise. We have been using your taxes to gradually protect those communities. So we have been on our own with our own party and with our own Government,” Fashola of the All Progressives Congress said.

He claimed the President only got to work is a few weeks towards elections.

“For four years, whenever there was crisis in Lagos nobody saw the President in the State neither did the President assist the Lagos State Government to procure arms and ammunition as well as logistics to improve security in the State. Let him come, but tell him the truth that it is not about where he comes from but about the quality of work he has done,” Fashola said.

It has been reported Jonathan will visit the state but dates have not been confirmed.
