Abuja - Akwa Ibom State Government has confirmed the visit of First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, who will be in the state on Friday.

According to senior government official the one day visit to the state is part of her campaign tour of the country.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah, said Jonathan will address Akwa Ibom women at a People’s Democratic Party Presidential Women Rally, slated for 10:00 am (local time) at the Uyo Township Stadium.

“The visit by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides an opportunity for the people of Akwa Ibom, especially women, to once again demonstrate their appreciation and love for the quintessential mother who has continued to work for the elevation of women,” Umanah.

He enjoined women, youths and all stakeholders to come out en-masse and join the wife of the State Governor, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, to accord the visiting President wife a rousing and befitting welcome.

The First Lady is campaigning for the re-election of husband, Goodluck Jonathan, and the ruling party.

She has courted controversy during her campaigns, recently calling All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, “brain dead.”
