“Hypocritical” Adams under pressure to quit OPC

Lagos - The Odua People’s Congress (OPC) National Coordinator, Gani Adams, is facing pressure from within the organisation to resign following his remarks that followed the election of Muhammadu Buhari as the country’s next president.

According to the organisation, Adams made a “U-turn” recently by describing Buhari as Nigeria’s Abraham Lincoln and congratulated the new president-elect and described his ascendancy as the will of God.

“Like a man who seems not to have any decency left in him; he made a fast u-turn on Buhari, the man he once detested. Now in the world of Gani Adams, Buhari has become another god to be worshiped for pecuniary gains,” said Adeshina Akinpelu, Spokesman National Coordinating Council of OPC.

Akinpelu said now that the hypocrisy of Adams had allegedly been exposed, he should do the “honourable thing” by resigning his position and apologise to all Yoruba people he had allegedly been deceiving all these years.

“He should desist from attacking members who opposed his recent sacrifice of Yoruba people on the altar of politics.

"We equally urge him to desist from inciting members of the group against some of us who have become his enemies because we want him to put the interests of all members and Yoruba race into consideration before taking decisions.”

Akinpelu blamed Adams for contributing to incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan.

“Let us even ask Gani Adams what happened to the six million votes he promised President Jonathan whom he took money from? God has really exposed your kind as nothing but an egocentric opportunist taking advantage of President Goodluck Jonathan.”

He added, “President Jonathan should understand that one of the factors that contributed to his defeat in South West is associating with the likes of Gani Adams who does have any electoral value.

"Unfortunately, it cost President Jonathan dearly before realising that Gani Adams is a liability and not an asset as he wants the whole world to think of him.”

Adams had not commented on the criticism.
