IGP redeploys 16 AIGs, 4 CPs for governorship, assembly polls

Abuja - The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba has approved the redeployment of 16 Assistant Inspector General of Police and the deployment of six Deputy Inspector-General of Police to coordinate Police activities in the six geo-political zones in the Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.

According to a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, AIG Usman Gmary is to take charge in Abia State; Olufemi Adenaike in charge of Kwara; the controversial Joseph Mbu will operate in Ogun, while Patrick Dokumor, Tambari Muhammed, Muhammed Abubakar and Ikemefuna Okoye will over see Kaduna, Jigawa, Gombe and Oyo State respectively.

Tunde Ogunsakin returns to the troubled Rivers State, as Jubril Adeniji, Yerima Irimiya, Baba Adisa Bolanta and Lawal Tanko will be in Bauchi, Imo, Akwa Ibom and lagos States respectively.

AIG Ballah Nasarawa moves to Benue, Musa Abdulsalam Daura will be in charge of Edo, Aderele Shinaba in Plateau, while Bala Hassan will operates from Sokoto.

Similarly, the IGP has also deployed four Commissioner of Police Sam Okuala, E.J Ibine, Adamu Mohammed and Valentine Ntomchukwu to Anambra, Ekiti, Enugu and Osun States respectively.

Besides, a Commissioner of Police has been deployed to command each of the Senatorial Zones of Gombe, Bauchi, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Benue, Edo, Plateau and Sokoto.

For Rivers State however, the IGP has ordered the deployment of Special Units of the Nigeria Police Force, namely: the 32 Units of Police Mobile Force (PMF), Four Units of Counter terrorism Units (CTU), Four Units of Special Protection Units (SPU) and Six Crack Teams of Detectives from Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and complements of Intelligence officers.

Meanwhile, the IGP has ordered a restriction of vehicular movement in all the 36 States of the Federation from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, April 11, 2015 only.

This restriction excludes vehicles on essential duty such as Fire Service, Ambulances and vehicles used by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement/security agencies.

There is no restriction of vehicular movement in the Federal Capital Territory as there is no election taking place there on the said date.

The IGP assures that adequate security logistics and manpower have been strategically deployed to achieve a most conducive electioneering atmosphere.
